The official trailer for the upcoming historical biopic drama Harriet, starring Tony winner Cynthia Erivo (Widows) as the titular American icon, has been released by Focus Features.

Based on the thrilling and inspirational life of an iconic American freedom fighter, Harriet tells the extraordinary tale of Harriet Tubman’s escape from slavery and transformation into one of America’s greatest heroes. Her courage, ingenuity, and tenacity freed hundreds of slaves and changed the course of history.
The film, which is directed by Kasi Lemmons (Eve’s Bayou) and co-written by Lemmons and Gregory Allen Howard (Remember the Titans), will also feature Leslie Odom Jr. (Hamilton, Murder on the Orient Express), Janelle Monáe (Hidden Figures), Joe Alwyn (Mary Queen of Scots), and Grammy Award-winner Jennifer Nettles. Zackary Momoh (Seven Seconds), who will play Tubman’s husband; Vanessa Bell Calloway (Shameless), who will play Tubman’s mother; and Vondie Curtis-Hall (Marvel’s Daredevil) and Deborah Ayorinde (True Detective) also star.
The film will hit theaters on November 1.
